Mechanical Engineering Technician

Cambridge Polymer Group (CPG) is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineering Technician for immediate hire. CPG is a highly respected material science research laboratory, and you will have an opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects in the fields of health care and consumer products, directly impacting patient quality of life and the consumer.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute towards multi-disciplinary projects that will cover a range of topics. The primary focus will basic testing, primarily around mechanical and physical tests, as well as ideally providing 3D CAD modelling and basic programming services. In addition, the ideal candidate will be comfortable providing initial triage support of our networking infrastructure. A proven desire to learn new techniques and skills will be essential.     

Primary tasks

  • Performing guided testing within our ISO 17025 testing laboratory (training to be provided)
  • Constructing and/or repairing electronic assemblies (soldering, etc.)
  • Machine tools like drill press, band saw, mill, lathe, shear, press break
  • 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks, Protocase Designer)
  • Programming (with assistance) for in-house instruments and analysis software (LabVIEW)
  • Supporting hands-on network infrastructure including basic support of equipment/computers (full support is provided by external vendor)

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should hold at least an Associates or undergraduate degree in an engineering field. Coursework in chemistry, physics or electronics, including some aspect of programming. Prior experience is a plus, but not required. Evidence of one or more of machine shop experience or LabVIEW, Solidworks or similar is a benefit.

The candidate should be comfortable working in a small, adaptable research company focused on non-routine, high-quality and rapid projects. The candidate should also be capable of working to timelines and strict protocols in support of medical device and pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
