Surface Energy Wetting

How a material coats a surface, or sprays out of a nozzle is intimately linked to its interfacial tension and the surface energy of the materials.  We can measure these properties using:

  • Sessile drop methods (ASTM D5946)
  • Dynamic contact angle analysis (Wilhelmy plate/de Nouy ring)

CPG has the ability to determine surface tension and contact angles on almost any surface configuration, including curved surfaces and fibers.  We make use of home-built sessile drop analysis using Labview image analysis or a DCAT 15 dynamic contact angle analyzer that allows us to determine either advancing or receding contact angles or surface tensions.
