Chromatography Research Technician

Cambridge Polymer Group is seeking a full-time Research Technician for immediate hire. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute towards multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on supporting our biomedical material safety testing as well as supporting more general R&D material science projects. 

Primary tasks include (with guidance from senior staff):

  • Sample preparation – dissolution, serial dilution, solvent extractions, liquid/liquid extractions, etc.
  • Sample/calibration curve preparation
  • Prepare glassware for extractions/trace analysis
  • Clear communication of results; maintenance of a laboratory notebook, report/document generation
  • Instrument oversight – routine maintenance, scheduling service visits/calibrations
  • Inventory maintenance

After mastering these skills, the candidate may have opportunities to participate more in:

  • Routine GCMS (and other chromatographic equipment) operation
    • Instrument verification
    • Adjusting simpler conditions (split ratios, temp ramps, detector windows)
    • Sample loading, sequence queuing
    • Instrument setup/maintenance/changeovers; column swaps
  • Method development
  • R&D

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about learning new skills, possess strong attention to detail, and take initiative to solve problems. The candidate should have an Associates or Bachelor of Science in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, material science.  If the candidate has a degree in a different discipline, equivalent relevant work experience (1-3 years) in one of the following areas will be considered:

    • Contract R&D lab
    • Failure analysis lab
    • Environmental lab
    • Forensic Lab
    • Manufacturing QC lab
    • Academic analytical lab with substantial throughput
    • Pharma or startup analytical lab

 Although, where appropriate, training will be provided, the ideal candidate will be expected to possess basic laboratory skills from the outset suitable for a high precision analytical testing laboratory.  The candidate should be comfortable working in a small, adaptable research company focused on non-routine, high-quality and rapid projects.  The candidate should also be capable of working to timelines and strict protocols in support of medical device and pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
