October 16, 2003  75th meeting of Society of Rheology

Gavin Braithwaite presented his paper on "The use of capillary breakup extensional viscosity to examine concentration dependence of relaxation time" at the 75th Meeting of the Society of Rheology in Pittsburgh. His co-author is Gregory Neal. Dr. Braithwaite also presented a paper on "Rheology of hagfish mucins" with his co-author Suzanna Melotti. June, 2003  EFOR Tribology Consortium, Helsinki, Finland

Stephen Spiegelberg was an invited faculty member at the Tribology Consortium at the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT)6th Congress in Helsinki, Finland. He spoke on a retrieval analysis conducted on crosslinked polyethylene tibial components.

May, 2003 Spring Meeting of ASTM

Stephen Spiegelberg organized and spoke at a workshop on Cleanliness of Biomedical Devices at the spring meeting of ASTM. This workshop is an on-going program at the ASTM dealing with issues of medical device cleanliness.

May, 2003  Presentation at ARVO Conference

Researchers Gavin Braithwaite, Suzanna Melotti, et al.  presented their work on the development of an artificial cornea at the Association for Research in Vision and Opthamology (ARVO, May 4-9, 2003, Ft. Lauderdale).

April 20, 2003  Annual Society for Biomaterials Meeting

Stephen Spiegelberg presented his work on polyethylene analysis at the annual meeting of the Society for Biomaterials. His co-authors on a study of polyethylene debris analysis are Patricia Campbell (Joint Replacement Institute), and Harry McKellop (J. Vernon Luck Orthopedic Hospital). His co-authors on a study of ultrasound and polyethylene are Orhun Muratoglu, Evan Greenbaum, and William Harris (MGH). Greg Neal was a co-author on a study of polyethylene creep, which was presented by his co-author Ming Shen (Centerpulse).

February, 2003  Biomedical devices seminar at the University of Memphis

Stephen Spiegelberg was invited to present a seminar on biomedical devices to the Physics Department at the University of Memphis.
