Surface Energy Wetting

How a material coats a surface, or sprays out of a nozzle is intimately linked to its interfacial tension and the surface energy of the materials.  We can measure these properties using sessile drop methods (ASTM D5946) or dynamic contact angle analysis (wilhelmy plate/de Nouy ring).  CPG therefore has the ability to determine surface tension and contact angles on almost any surface configuration, including curved surfaces and fibers.  We make use of home-built sessile drop analysis using labview image analysis or a Cahn DCA 315 dynamic contact angle analyzer that allows us to determine either advancing or receding contact angles or surface tensions.
