Research Associate l

Cambridge Polymer Group seeks a material scientist or chemist for the role of Research Associate I. We are a small, fast moving contract research and analytical testing laboratory for medical materials, consumer products and industrial materials. With an excellent reputation in biomedical material development, we are aggressively pursuing a number of novel orthopaedic materials including hydrogels and next-generation polymeric implants. We seek an enthusiastic, application-driven scientist to support speculative research and drive day-to-day client support.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work in the lab on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects while focusing on supporting analytical testing at CPG. S/he will perform experiments on a schedule and within our GLP guidelines under the guidance of a Research Scientist. Tasks can include:

• Design & develop experimental protocols

• Carry out experiments, gather & analyze data

• Keep accurate records of experimental approach & procedures

• Setup & maintain lab equipment

Requirements:

The ideal candidate holds a B.Sc. in Chem Engineering, Mech Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or Materials Science. Desired skills include experience in analytical techniques including FTIR, DSC, DMA, load-frames and rheology. Familiarity with GPC or other chromatography technique is a plus. S/he should be comfortable working in a small adaptable research company focused on high-quality and rapid results. Experience in chemistry or biology, including cell culture, is an advantage.

Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work closely with other engineering project team members. Must be comfortable working in a small, dynamic research company and enjoy working in a diverse and varied scientific environment.

Research Scientist II

Cambridge Polymer Group is seeking a polymer chemist for a full-time position of Research Scientist II. We are a respected,R&D, contract research and testing lab involved in biomedical, consumer and industrial materials. We have an excellent reputation in biomedical material development and are aggressively developing novel orthopaedic materials including hydrogels and polymeric implants. We seek an enthusiastic, application-driven chemist capable of driving a speculative project forward.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will lead a range of client and internal multi-disciplinary projects. S/he will support the senior staff in monitoring and managing the functioning of the laboratory and will provide a managerial interface between senior staff and the research staff. S/he will also be expected to run experimental projects autonomously, but with over-sight from senior staff. Experiments will be performed on a schedule and within our GLP guidelines. Possible primary tasks include:

- Lead internal and external research projects

- Designing/developing experimental protocols

- Managing small groups of employees

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Industrial experience of at least 4 years working in small groups is required. Must have a proven ability to oversee projects with deadlines and schedules. Strong experience in polymer chemistry required, with biomedical experience desired. Experience with hydrogels & routine analytical tests an advantage.

Must have excellent written & oral communication skills and be able to work closely with other engineering project team members. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a small, dynamic research company focused on high-quality and rapid results, and must be a pro-active leader with good problem-solving skills.
